The Church Credit Champions Network has been helping churches engage on money and debt issues across London and Liverpool since 2014. This has been part of a successful pilot programme through which the Network has engaged over 300 churches, and helped sign-up 2,500 new credit union members in the process!
This June, in London, the Network is excitingly launching the inaugural ‘Credit Union Month’. Throughout the month of June, Churches across London will be running pop-up stalls at their Sunday services over tea and coffee, offering churchgoers the chance to find out more about credit unions and to join them!
This joined-up movement of action is a chance for all of the churches engaged by the Network in London, and more, to take a clear stand against exploitative lending and unethical financial institutions together. It will also help to create growth and awareness of London’s credit unions.
Interactive training sessions are being run across the Diocese of London area to equip churches to run stalls, but also to find out more about credit unions generally and how best to support them. Each training session will be free, well-catered and open to anybody, whatever your knowledge!
This is a simple and low-effort way to join in with a movement for change and a fairer financial system. It is an effective and no-strings-attached way to be part of winning the ‘War on Wonga’. Could your church join in?
